Project “Uday” – Formal Education at the Setu Shikshajyoti Kendra Village Nithari Noida
Setu provides formal education to children of poor families. Setu Shiksha Jyoti Kendra, Nithari, Noida, started as a primary school over the last twelfth years the strength of children has gone up to 459 and 329 of these are girls in the session starting 2020-2021. The school works in 2 shifts. We started the 2020-2021 session with 113 students in the pre-primary, 145 students in the primary section and the rest 201 students in the middle & the senior secondary section.
The project is on for the last twelve years and we introduced smart classes to help enhance the quality of delivery as well as leaning of the students. Digitization shall also help in standardising curriculum and ensure that the marginalised student get the same quality of education as any other child in the country. We are currently operating on a hybrid model of both offline and online teaching aided by resources provided by Setu. Based on learning and ambition of the senior students over the age of 18 we also empower them thru skill based training on completion their school education. This enables most of them to take up jobs and simultaneously continue with their higher studies thru self-earning.
The infrastructure increased from a two room shack to a 28 room facility comprising of Classrooms, Science Labs, Library, Computer room, Activity room, a proper lunch Room and a Kitchen. The school is running on Solar power also. Adequate seating space is also available for staff and hygienic wash rooms are also available separately for boys and girls. All the students apart from teaching were provided, Books, Uniform, all Stationery items and Midday meal at the school. In additional the students also underwent regular Health, Eye and Dental Checkups along with immunization Camps.

Setu Women Empowerment and Employability Program

Objective: Skilling of Women and Youth with Basic IT Skills to make them employable and Corporate ready. Young Girls and Boys from disadvantaged communities face barriers in joining the formal economy, lack of quality education, skills, social confidence, communication and language problems and often issues with grooming and etiquette and also parental pressure to marry and keep house, to community pressure to only take respectable jobs and limitations on being allowed to travel too far from the family home. The Beneficiaries are all from unserved families with low levels of income. The basic occupation of the people who qualify comprises of rickshaw pullers, vegetable sellers, labour working. Rationale: This course shall enable a respectable, much sought after and prestigious career for such young girls; not only does it provide a decent salary, but also fits in with raising a family and provides her with status in her community. Expected outputs: Skilled Women ready to take up employment at entry level jobs Expected outcome: Livelihood for Women and independence and self-dependent women power.

Setu was set up in 2003 with the Mission to Skill and Empower the Under-served, as we grew over the years our mission evolved towards: Skill and Empower The Under-served. Setu works with and for children, families and the community to bring a permanent change in the lives of the under-served in terms of education, basic hygiene and rights, with the belief that all human beings are equal and have the right to equal opportunity. We mobilize resources for causes like health and rehabilitation, literacy, welfare of children, women and youth empowerment, which also includes a learning and development facility to increase employability via development programs. -Project Life ( Smile)– Mainstreaming of people with Special needs – Hearing Impaired, Intellectually Impaired, Physically Challenged. Over 160 People mainstreamed since 2016. -Project Saksham: Caters to illiterate/ literate women and empower them with vocational skills so as to make them employable/self-employable and create livelihood for themselves. Over 16000 women skilled and employment/self employment provided to over 6100 women -Project Uday – Education of Children Especially Girls at Setu Schools- SETU Shiksha Jyoti Education Kendra across Noida /Greater Noida. The project started in 2008 educates under-served children from nursery to twelve standard with English as its medium of instruction. The current strength of the school is 1715 children (1122 girls). - Project Poshan focuses on providing healthy and Nutritive food items, hygienic health care products as well as Health Checkups to the members of the community.
