Setu Shiksha Jyoti Kendra
Description
Project “Uday” – Formal Education at the Setu Shikshajyoti Kendra Village Nithari Noida

Setu provides formal education to children of poor families. Setu Shiksha Jyoti Kendra, Nithari, Noida, started as a primary school over the last twelfth years the strength of children has gone up to 459 and 329 of these are girls in the session starting 2020-2021. The school works in 2 shifts. We started the 2020-2021 session with 113 students in the pre-primary, 145 students in the primary section and the rest 201 students in the middle & the senior secondary section.

The project is on for the last twelve years and we introduced smart classes to help enhance the quality of delivery as well as leaning of the students. Digitization shall also help in standardising curriculum and ensure that the marginalised student get the same quality of education as any other child in the country. We are currently operating on a hybrid model of both offline and online teaching aided by resources provided by Setu. Based on learning and ambition of the senior students over the age of 18 we also empower them thru skill based training on completion their school education. This enables most of them to take up jobs and simultaneously continue with their higher studies thru self-earning.

The infrastructure increased from a two room shack to a 28 room facility comprising of Classrooms, Science Labs, Library, Computer room, Activity room, a proper lunch Room and a Kitchen. The school is running on Solar power also. Adequate seating space is also available for staff and hygienic wash rooms are also available separately for boys and girls. All the students apart from teaching were provided, Books, Uniform, all Stationery items and Midday meal at the school. In additional the students also underwent regular Health, Eye and Dental Checkups along with immunization Camps.

Programme Title
Setu Women Empowerment and Employability Program
Description
Objective: Skilling of Women and Youth with Basic IT Skills to make them employable and Corporate ready. Young Girls and Boys from disadvantaged communities face barriers in joining the formal economy, lack of quality education, skills, social confidence, communication and language problems and often issues with grooming and etiquette and also parental pressure to marry and keep house, to community pressure to only take respectable jobs and limitations on being allowed to travel too far from the family home. The Beneficiaries are all from unserved families with low levels of income. The basic occupation of the people who qualify comprises of rickshaw pullers, vegetable sellers, labour working.
Rationale: This course shall enable a respectable, much sought after and prestigious career for such young girls; not only does it provide a decent salary, but also fits in with raising a family and provides her with status in her community.
Expected outputs: Skilled Women ready to take up employment at entry level jobs
Expected outcome: Livelihood for Women and independence and self-dependent women power.

  • Empowerment thru Skilling Projects

    The Focus of the Setu Skill Development Program is mainly women empowerment of under the Setu Women Empowerment and Employability Program (SWEEP). Various project have been launched and Skills are offered in Basic IT, Tally, English Speaking and Retail, Tailoring ( Low end as well as High end), Hospitality, Health care and Beauty & Wellness. Skill Development courses are currently offered at our Multi Skill Centre at Village Nithari, Village Sadarpur in Noida, Village Berhampur in Ghaziabad and at Dawas, Jaipur, Rajasthan. Over last 6 years 6454 people, skilled including 6018 women & 2437 placed.

    “Project Saksham” was extended to our Multi Skill Centre at Dawas in Jaipur laying our footprints outside Uttar Pradesh The Centre at Village Nithari Noida offers skills in Basic IT, English Speaking, Retail, Tally and Tailoring and has a capacity to skill 480 students in a year. During the last one year 421 students were enrolled , 240 students were skilled at the centre and another 181 are currently attending and 73 have been placed.

    The Centre at Village Sadarpur Noida offers skills in Basic IT, Tally, English Speaking and Retail, Tailoring (Low end as well as High end), Hospitality, Health care and Beauty and Wellness with a capacity to skill 900 students in an year. During the last one year 595 students were skilled at the centre and currently 270 are students attending.

    The Centre at Dawas Jaipur Rajasthan was launched on 27th September 2017 and offers skills in Basic IT, English Speaking, Textile and Tailoring and has a capacity to skill 480 students in a year. During the period 148 students were skilled at the centre and another 102 are currently attending.

    “Project Saaman” - KNOW ME FOR MY ABILITIES, I AM A SPECIALLY ABLED AND AT SETU
    Setu embarked on the journey to provide Employment or earning opportunities to People with Disabilities.We started with 15 students in 2016 and till date to summarize we have 331 the total enrolments, 125 have completed the courses and 57 have been employed/self- employed. An addition 148 more students have been registered and they will start courses as when the next slots are available.
    After enrolment student’s assessment is also being done. This assessment takes time and after the assessment their skill training starts. Initially the courses were offered only in IT and Tailoring however as we evolved the offering increased based on the needs and we have added:Sign Language,Hospitality,Beauty and Wellness,Paper Products making,Jewellery making,Scanning Documents,Basic Cookery, Remedial Classes Grooming and Professional etiquette,English Communication
