Child Rights for Change (CRC): Strengthened Child Rights and Improved Education to Prevent Child Labour in South Rajasthan. Objective: Create an enabling environment which ensures promotion of children’s rights leading to prevention of child labour and migration. 90000 children (aged 0 to 18 years) in 150 revenue villages of 32 Gram Panchayats in five blocks in Banswara district, Rajasthan Collaboration with Govt programs – SSA, ICDS & ICPS. Total budget for four years is RS. 85 lakhs per year needs to be mobilized from new source(s).

Major objective is to create an enabling environment which ensures promotion of children’s rights and quality education leading to prevention of child labour and migration from Banswara district, Rajasthan (150 villages in two blocks) to Gujarat

1. Conducted Household surveys of about 24500 families in all 100 villages for identification of target population of children, status of various development indicators and compliance of various government schemes. 2. Formed and strengthened 110 village level Child Protection Committees (CPCs) in 100 villages, Gram Panchayat level CPCs in 24 Gram Panchayats and block level CPCs in two blocks (Bagidora and Gangad Talai, in Banswara district. 3. 551 eligible poor families have been linked with various social protection schemes such as Palanhar, widow pension and old age pension for improving the economic status of the families, so that they can send their children in school. 4. Trained village level young volunteers to support project interventions and crate ownership among the local community. 5. For ensuring students active participation in school management and hearing their voices about their rights, Constituted and strengthened Children’s Collective (Baal Sansad) in 123 schools and children member were made aware about their rights and roles and responsibilities. 6. Created an enabling sensitive enabling environment for stopping child labour and child marriage in the area.

Broad Goals: By 2019, 90000 children (aged 0 to 18 years) will have: (i) Increased protection against abuse, exploitation and violence in the villages: prevention from migration for work. (ii) Improved quality of education with focus on learning at pre-school and elementary level. (iii) Enhanced access to social protection schemes for improved income of poor families.

Legacy Education project in two blocks of Banswara district in Rajasthan
|
Project aims to support 25 girls from poor and excluded communities to access university education and secure the government support necessary to provide quality and universal education for children from excluded groups in the 60 target schools. 20000 Children (6 to 14 years) has been targeted to be benefited in 100 Govt. elementary schools of 60 revenue villages in 15 GPs in 5 blocks in Banswara district, Rajasthan. Collaboration with Government programme – SSA and ICPS. Total budget: Rs. 35 lakhs per year

1. To provide Education encouragement support to 25 young people from poor and excluded communities to complete university education. 2. To support 60 government elementary schools to provide quality, non-discriminatory and universal education through community level training and sensitization and meetings with local government senior education officials. 3. To strengthen school governance systems in the 60 target schools through training and empowerment of panchayat, SMC and PTA members. 2. To ensure access to quality (i.e. sufficient school infrastructure and appropriate teacher-pupil ratios) and free elementary education for all children of tribal community in the target areas. 3. To reduce the number of children participating in child labour and increase ex-child labourer enrolment and retention rates in elementary schools in the target areas.

Conducted situation analysis of compliance of Right Education Act in 60 Government Elementary School in two blocks of the district and identified issues and problems of each of the schools. • Identified 25 girls of most poor families and provided scholarship to support their university level education. • Identified out-of-school and vulnerable children of poor tribal families who go in labour. • Oriented members of School Management Committees, Village level Child Protection Committees and PRIs by facilitating their active participation in regular meetings for dealing children’s issues related to their rights and quality education.

Educating out-of-school adolescent girls in rural Tonk and Banswara districts in
|
Pehchan & Prajwala Projects for Educating Out-of-School Adolescent Girls (9 to 18 years) and mainstreaming them in formal schools in rural Tonk, Banswara and Pratapgarh districts. Targeted to benefit 15000 adolescent girls of deprived communities per year. Earlier funded by UNICEF, Save the Children, Axis Bank Foundation, The Hans Foundation in Tonk and Jaipur districts since July 2002 to till July 2012). The project is being partnered with EdelGive Foundation in Tonk district and National Stock Exchange Foundation / Bodh Shiksha Samiti in Banswara and Pratapgarh districts & collaborated with SSA / State Government and matching grant is required for scaling up the programme in two more districts. Current Annual budget is Rs. 80.00 lakh, required additional funds about 1.5 crores for scaling up in two new districts.

To impart quality elementary education, life skills and adolescent health education to out-of-school adolescent girls (aged 9 to 18 years) and mainstreaming them in formal schools for further secondary education. 2. Establishing Adolescent girls forums at village level for continuous learning which helps adolescent to establish their identity and self esteem in society. 3. To improve pedagogic improvement, develop professional skills of teachers and sensitize them to create enabling environment towards girls' education in formal school.

Through the interventions of this project, CULP has also provided health education and imparted life skills to about 100,000 adolescent girls in over 650 habitations in four districts of Rajasthan, so far. Over 80% of the organization’s target beneficiaries have successfully completed their secondary education. Many of them are currently pursuing higher education as well. Pehchan achieves its goals by collaborating with government, ensuring community ownership and participation, establishing convergence with education for all project, sensitizing community and school systems to address larger social and gender equity issues and creating an enabling environment in the village for social and behavioral change through development of adolescent girl forums. Through the project, the organization established centers for remedial classes, essential for formal schooling, supported by specially trained women teachers. These teachers are trained in ‘accelerated learning approach and multiple intelligence theory’. Some of the results of monitoring and evaluation studies conducted on the project include empowerment of girls to take decisions about their lives, delayed marriage, increased self-identity and self-discipline of children, respectful behavior by children and freedom to question and discuss. Girls have also experienced improvement in personal hygiene behavior and have demonstrated improved knowledge on feminine health and motherhood. Positive impacts were also observed on inter-caste relations in school classrooms. The organization also provides academic support to teachers to sensitize them on gender and child rights issues, develops their pedagogic skills and creates child-friendly environment in schools. 'Pehchan' has been proven as a successful model for empowering adolescent girls through education, receiving prestigious Dasra Girl Power Award in 2014 and getting short-listed as one of the finalists in India NGO Awards in 2013 and won this India NGO Award 2014-15

Empowered Adolescent girls by establishing their forums at village level and imparting them life skills and adolescent health education which will help them to establish their identity and self esteem in the society. 3. Created enabling / sensitized environment in formal schools and pedagogic improvement in 12 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Schools in Banswara and Pratapgarh districts.
