This new program is being rolled out in 20 villages of Ghat, in Chamoli District. The focus is on increasing child participation and helping children become change agents while working with the educational system starting with pre-primary and moving onto primary school to change the quality of education offered.
Child Protection in Dehradun (supported by CHILDLINE Foundation India Since Dec 2010)

A project of the ministry of women and child development, CHILDINE provides an emergency helpline for children in crisis. The MCF runs the 24-hour children’s emergency helplinein Dehradun, through which our team has assisted 1,500 children in need of care and protection. We are also working on reduce child begging in the urban Dehradun area and get those children into school.
PABAM Magazine (published continuously since 2003)

A monthly children’s magazine in Hindi that gives the young people a voice and a forum in which to share their stories, concerns and experiences and connects young people from far flung villages to one another. Children write in to share community learning experiences. The magazine incubates new ideas and spreads awareness about them; provides a platform to share problems and solutions; builds a peer network for emulation and takes the voice of children far beyond the boundaries of their villages.

Organisation Profile

Brief Description
Over the past 21 years The Mountain Children's Foundation works in the in the Indian state of Uttarakhand to break down barriers for children and enhance the role of young people in transforming their communities on issues spanning from child participation and child protection, to health & sanitation, education, gender equality, the environment – climate change and disaster mitigation.
Currently we are working in a total of 59 villages in the districts of Dehradun and Chamoli Uttarakhand and 4 Bastis. Our focus in on - Child Protection through our partnership with, Child Participating with 60 vibrant Bal Sangathans created in 60 villages. We focus on preprimary education nutrition and growth in anganwadis and the role of the communities in ensuring that these are vibrant centers in 27 villages and 40 anganwadis . We have been focusing on strengthening the School Management committees in primary schools so that they can endure that their children can get their rights under the Right to Education Act 2009. In 26 villages we provide remedial support to primary school children in Math and English.
In a year we reach out to – 900 infants; 2755 adults and 8396 children. We indirectly impact a population of 34,131 people.
