The Mountain Children's Foundation (MCF) was formed in 2002, grounded in the belief that true and lasting change can only be achieved by the active engagement of the community and that the the most powerful agents of change and development are a community's young people.
MCF was launched on 21st May, 2002, when 100 children from mountainous communities from across India and Nepal gathered in Dehradun to share their hopes and concerns.
The MCF works by tapping the energy and idealism of young people to change their communities from the ground up, based on their priorities. Over the past decade the MCF network has grown to encompass thousands of children in every district of Uttarakhand.
To enable children become committed, effective citizens, who through collective action, build a foundation of trust and respect for one another becoming agents of change in their communities.
To create spaces for child participation wherein the individuality and rights of the child are respected: - By working closely with Government and its agents for upgrading effectiveness and efficiency of schemes and programs, - By nurturing communities which give children opportunity to develop to their full potential, and - By identifying and removing obstacles to such growth.
To change the way the world perceives and works with children.
