Background

Organisation History
Based in Bangalore, Karnataka, Diya Foundation was registered as a Vocational Training and Sheltered Workshop on 22nd March, 1999. A skill-based training program that began with three students and one staff 25 years ago, now trains around 45+ adults with intellectual challenges and has 26 staff, one of them is a Person with Disability. The Founder, a special educator, realized that her students were leaving the school program ill-equipped to deal with the challenges of life and ill prepared for the world of work. She decided to start a vocational training center that would address this need and prepare young adults towards self-dependence and a path to future work options.

Purpose & Strategies
To enrich the quality of life and bring dignity to differently-abled adults by educating them in life skills and employability skills focusing on self dependence, building support systems and enhancing awareness in the community.

Vision
To see individuals with a disability and their families alive with dignity and pride in the present and operating with love, respect and confidence in the future.

Building a permanent and wider support for individuals facing intellectual challenges!
