Background

Organisation History
RMD Pain and Palliative Care Trust are distinguished in the market as a system provider of pain and palliative hospice services to the terminally ill in Tamil Nadu. The vision is to provide individualized care through outpatient, inpatient, home based and hospital Care.

It provides palliative care services for lower socio- economic background people in centres located at Maduravoyal, Madurai and Thiruvallur. Currently, these services are been catered to 400 patients to improve their quality of life and promoting personal dignity through health education and training awareness workshops.
RMD, as it is affectionately called was named after Philanthropist and freedom fighter Mr.R.M.Dave who was the sheriff and the Mayor of Madras served as an Ambassador of Niger Honorary Counsel of Niger. The founder’s daughter Dr Republica Sridhar, inspired by the visionary started RMD Nursing Home in the year 1994. Since then the Nursing Home has been providing health Care services with 25 beds and an operation theatre. A deep rooted belief in assisting the down trodden and the elderly motivated her to get trained in Palliative Care.
The growing need and a mission to expand the reach of palliative care services paved the way to form a trust in the year 2005. Since then the trust has been providing health awareness for the general public, training and education for nurses, psychosocial workers and caregivers. The trust provides care in their hospices with total bed strength of 80 and community based home palliative care in association with Tamil Nadu State Health Society. As of today, RMD has provided patient and family consultation and support to around 19200 patients.
The need of the hour for palliative care is a multidisciplinary trained team of bedside care givers and nurses for elderly and palliative care thus urging RMD to get involved in various training programmes for nurses, attenders, volunteers ,doctors ,community workers, VHN’s, bedside attenders and home health care providers.
