Calcutta Rescue provides health care and education to the most economically disadvantaged and socially disfavoured people in Kolkata and West Bengal. Established 35 years ago by British physician, Dr. Jack Preger, it has grown to over 150 employees operating in 3 clinics, 2 schools, a street medicine programme and water filtration, weaving and handicrafts projects. Currently, we directly enhance the lives of over 50,000 persons and positively touch the lives of thousands more.
Calcutta Rescue will provide all services free of cost to the neediest people of Kolkata and rural West Bengal through health clinics, schools, vocational training and preventive health programmes. We aim to improve levels of health, education and earning opportunities for current and new service users.
Calcutta Rescue will continue and develop its 35 – year programme of essential help to people living in the harsh conditions of poverty in Kolkata and other areas of West Bengal. We will provide free health care, education and ways of combating poverty until people who are disadvantaged and neglected achieve universal and best possible healthcare together with full educational opportunities for their children.
