Programme Title
Developing Experimental Laboratory for Public Use
Description
Support setting up of a state-of-the-art research laboratory or specialized research equipment in the social, natural, formal, or applied sciences at Monk® Prayogshala® that will help researchers implement lab-based research projects across disciplines. We aim to mobilize resources and technical support to establish a 20-terminal social science laboratory for conducting computer-based experiments in social sciences (psychology, economics, public policy) with laptops, software, servers, and laboratory manager.

This includes basic and advanced infrastructural support to researchers in the social sciences in particular -- where they can conduct behavioural experiments,
Two resources are central to being able to set up a world-class research facility. This will be a public resource where we will offer the experimental laboratory to other researchers in India.

Our main requirement here is related to financial resources required to acquire statistical software, computers, physical space, and trained staff to ensure that the lab continues to run smoothly and consistently has space to expand to meet researcher needs as well as match the facilities available in the best labs in the world.

We expect a minimum set-up cost of Rs. 7.5 Lakhs and a recurring cost of Rs. 2 Lakhs for this laboratory, as of 2016-17. We will reach out to our early career-researcher database (more than 30,000 researchers) to invite researchers to participate in our experiments as well as conduct their own experiments.

Objectives
using the funds mobilized for this program, we plan to invest in acquiring basic infrastructure (such as laptop computers and statistical software) that will help move along current research projects and create long-term capacity for future research projects on a larger scale.

We would ensure that the laboratory is available for researchers who are not affiliated directly with Monk Prayogshala as well, creating basic infrastructure for others in Mumbai and other cities (in Maharashtra) to do human-subjects research. This also includes developing an online (confidential) database and server that will be used as an online recruitment system for experiments.
