Tamana was born out of the living faith and optimism of Dr. Shayama Chona, the mother of a child born with cerebral palsy. Dr. Chona’s struggle during her daughter’s treatment abroad inspired her to set up rehabilitative services for disabled in India. Tamana NGO was started in 1984 with 4 children in a small shed to becoming one of the most dedicated special schools in India. The services are provided to mentally challenged and autistic. The first centre Tamana Special Education Centre, was inaugurated by HRH Princess of Wales, Late Lady Diana, on February 12, 1992.
