Goals
• To facilitate empowerment, solidarity and leadership capacities of backward rural women and the under privileged social sections.
• To sensitize, act and promote basic education, rural health, eco environment and quality of living in the problem villages.
• To restore and strengthen the advocacy of human and child rights activities of vulnerable social categories concentrating on women and girls rights for preventing social discrimination and oppression.
• To garner economic empowerment and rural self employment of socially handicapped sections through credit and savings, eco friendly sustainable agriculture, micro enterprises and establishment of a value chain based marketing network.
• To conduct information networking, need based research, documentation and create a data base on all aspects of a prospective rural socio economy.

Opening of 1500 Common Service Centres i the state
Care and protection of 200 child victims

Background

Organisation History
. Alternative for Rural Movement (ARM) has been registered as a voluntary development organization under the Society Registration Act XXI of 1860, Income Tax Act 12 A & Foreign Contribution Regulation Act 1976 and organized till date over 300 Women Self Help Groups (WSGs) across 500 remote rural villages in 61 Gram Panchayats of Balasore district in the state of Odisha (India).


Purpose & Strategies
Establishment of an equitable social order through motivation facilitation and self activity among backward rural communities with emphasis on women and children in the sphere of health, education, human rights, economy and rural leadership.


Vision
To find out an alternative strategy of rural social intervention and facilitate the NGO movement in the state of Orissa.

Mr. Rajendra Kumar Rana, is a renowned social worker and development activist..He has been associated in the development sector for the last 30 years. To find out an alternative strategy of rural social intervention and facilitate the NGO movement in the state of Orissa Mr. Rana gave leadership to establish ARM, one of the most reputed NGO in the state of Orissa, in the year 1989. Since its very inception ARM has been championing the cause of the disadvantaged section of the society with a prime focus on women and children under the able leadership of Mr. Rana. He has long experience of 25 years in the field of community health, women’s empowerment, education and rural development. He has taken bold initiatives to take-up different community based healthcare programmes to organise the rural men and women to sustain their health by themselves. Under his bold initiatives ARM has been running a primary health centre under National Health Mission since 2007. This project has already extended health care services to more than 1,56,000 under-privileged people. He has given leadership for the implementation of different healthcare programmes especially in the field of reproductive and child health with financial assistance from Misereor, Germany and different other international donor agencies. Under his leadership ARM has bagged different prestigious Awards for its outstanding achievement in the field of development. He has technical experience in the field of maternal and child health, education,women empowerment,disaster management,livelihood promotion,huma rights and sustainable agriculture .

Volunteer Needs
ARM is a reputed NGO at coastal Baliapal Block striving for holistic development of most marginalized and vulnerable section of people especially for women and children. But it has very limited resources so ARM needs following activists who can contribute their talent, resources, expertise voluntarily for the said noble causes.ARM will bear the cost of their logistics and local conveyance during the service period.
