Programme Title
Sister Nivedita School on Wheels
Description
In 1994, the School on Wheels project started with the vision of empowering rural schools and educating children in marginalized areas. The program started with one school bus that traveled through the interiors of the districts of Gujarat bringing training to the teachers, exposure to the children and innovation to the principals of the schools. Today, School on Wheels has reached out to thousands of children across several villages, trained hundreds of teachers, built infrastructure in many schools and changed the lives of millions of villagers.

School on Wheels is an initiative of the Sister Nivedita Foundation. The Foundation was started in Rajkot in 1968 by Smt. Ushaben Jani and Shree. Gulabbhai Jani, both professors of Economics at that time. It started with the vision of propagating education of the highest quality to all children and impacting the lives of people in the community through education.

Objectives
Our Objectives are to begin with tackling four fundamental roadblocks that our students face. 1. Enrolment : Every child should be enrolled in primary school 2. Retention : Every child should complete till at least 8th Standard in school 3. Quality of education : The learning imparted should be of the highest caliber 4. Eradication of poverty : Education should be the only means of achieving economic betterment In order to realize our mission, we employ the following principles: 1. Education is not restricted with the four walls of school. Nature, society, industry, art, sports and social work are all instrumental components of education 2. Education is the only medium of social change 3. The aim of education is to achieve beyond just degrees and certificates; it is to create good human beings 4. The whole process of education should be joyful. For more detail visit http://schoolonwheels.org.in/frmWhatWeDo.aspx?tid=11

Programme Goals
To achieve our mission, we believe in reaching out physically to the communities that are not privileged in terms of economic stature and infrastructure development. Our model is designed in a way so as to bring to such communities the amenities and expertise that they lack. In doing so, we aim to plug the gaps that exist in the delivery of high-quality education. School on Wheels currently works with 88 village schools in 53 villages across 3 districts in the state of Gujarat, India. In these schools, we address the issues of education in a holistic fashion, looking at all possible gaps that need to be plugged. This involves working with all stakeholders in the ecosystem – the school administrator, the teacher, the parents, and the village community and of course, the children themselves. In these schools, we find ways to apply our underlying principles and create interest in everyone in achieving our mission together. We also believe in the value of entrepreneurship and leave it to the individual schools and communities to interpret our programs in their local context and adapt them so as to reap the most benefits from them.

Programme Title
Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Scholarship
Description
Girls' Scholarship Scheme for Std. 9-12. (For economically challenged needy Girls)

We believe in making education sustainable and long-term. One of our biggest successes has been to control the drop-out rate of adolescent students, especially girls, from schools. Many of rural students do not have the means to continue further studies after primary school (Grade 8). Also, most of the high schools and higher education institutes are in bigger towns and urban areas and hence, students need to leave home and pay for accommodation to live and study in towns and cities. This becomes a financially unviable option for the parents who are economically backward and are not able to afford such expenses.

To make education long-lasting, especially for girls, Sister Nivedita Educational Complex instituted the Scholarship program at the time of “Amrut Mahotsav” celebration of the founder Smt. Ushaben Jani that provides financial reprieve to girl students to some extent. The Scholarship program is for girl students who pursue high school education up to standard 12th. These scholarships are awarded on merit based on one’s performance in the examinations.

Till now, Sister Nivedita Educational Complex has awarded 1052 girl students with scholarships worth Rs.52, 000, 00/-.

To provide support for higher education to boys and girls both, we instituted the interest free Loan program sponsored by Share & Care Foundation, USA that allows them to borrow some funds towards their higher education and repay it in instalments, usually after they start earning. This has been one of the most empowering programs as more and more students find it extremely difficult to pursue higher education due to very high educational expenses. Till date, Sister Nivedita Educational Complex has given interest free loans worth Rs.1, 63, 51,600/- to 214 students.

Objectives
It is a fact that many rural girls drop out, after their primary education of standard 8 all over the country. Your support can ensure that these talented girls do not drop out due to financial reasons. Following are the reasons why the talented rural girls can not complete their secondary and higher secondary school education after completion of primary education. • Poor economical condition of parents is the major obstacle to admit girls in boarding schools for secondary and Higher Secondary education. • Lack of Secondary and Higher Secondary School facility in the village or nearby village after completion of primary school education • Lack of proper transportation facility to visit school from the village on day-to-day basis. • Hesitation to send girls for secondary and higher secondary school education in distant area due to safety consideration. • Parents' ignorance towards importance and value of girls' education. • Tendency to promote early marriage in backward communities of rural area. • Girls are handed over the responsibilities like household work, caring of younger brothers and sisters, duties related to agricultural and animal husbandry etc. from early age.

Programme Title
Livelihood Enhancement (Job oriented Skill Development)
Description
Sister Nivedita Educational Complex believes that education is a lifelong process. Continuing Education Centre is a centre for providing life-long education, a centre to provide alternate employment opportunities for those who have not received complete education or formal education.

It aims to train people and provide them with skills that make them self-sufficient and capable of gaining employment or starting a business of their own. The concept of continuing education is particularly appropriate in a country like ours where a large number of people have been denied basic educational facilities and even where such facilities exist, large numbers are unable to avail the same because of socio-economic situations. We should therefore provide increasing opportunities for all adults to learn according to their interest and needs and to ensure that every person has an opportunity to develop his talent and is not deprived of facilities on account of his failure to go through the formal education system at one stage or another.
