SAMMAN (Community Based Management of severely malnourished Children)
Description
• Activities of the Project:
o Treatment of Severe malnourished children by RUTF (locally prepared Ready to use Therapeutic Food) and minerals and vitamins.
o Growth monitoring of under – 5 children.
o Treatment of associated diseases.
o Referral of resistant or relapse MALNOURISHED cases for management by pediatrician.
o Special stress on females to reduce the rate of severe malnutrition.
• No. of Beneficiaries:
o All SAM, SUW and Grade 3 & 4 children for RUTF Therapy for 90 days with continuous monthly enrollment and also for their treatment of infections if any in 15 villages of Melghat.(1500 children as a total sample size)
o All under 5 children for growth monitoring in 14 villages of melghat. (1300 children).

Objectives
• Objectives of the Project:
o To reduce the prevalence of severe malnutrition (under 5 children) by at least 35% in usual residents population of 12500 (from15 villages in tribal area of Melghat) over a period of 3 years.
o To reduce the death of the children (in the age of group of 6 months to 5 years) due to Severe Malnutrition i. e. proportional mortality rate due to severe malnutrition by at least 35% in usual residents’ population of 13000 (from 14 villages) in tribal area of Melghat over a period of 3 years.

Programme Achievements
  • >50% reduction in prevalence of severe malnutrition in intervention area as compared baseline & control area.

    Prevalence of severe malnutrition in Intervention Area 11.1% Prevalence of severe malnutrition in Control Area 22.9%

Programme Title
MCPEPAG (Mortality control program for economically productive age group)
Description
• Activities of the Project:
o All people in the age group of 16-60 years who are ill will be screened and some cases will be treated by trained VHW(Hypertension, Diarrhea, Pneumonia, Malaria, COAD)& Other cases(TB) will be referred to hospital in intervention area. While data collection (vital statistics) will be conducted in both areas.
• No. of Beneficiaries:
o All people in the age group of 16-60 years who are ill in 14 villages of Melghat. (6565 as per census done in 2007)

Objectives
o To reduce the age specific mortality rate (especially due to tuberculosis , cardiovascular diseases (IHD, CVE, HT, etc.) , COAD, diarrheal diseases , Pneumonia , Malaria , etc.) in the age group of 16-60 years by more than 40% from baseline ( 314 per 1 lac population) in usual residents population of 13000 (from 15villages in tribal area of Melghat ) over a period of 5years.
o To reduce the prevalence of untreated hypertension in the age group of 16 to 60 years from existing 8.5% (range 7% to 10%) by 35% in usual residents population of 13000 (from 15 villages in tribal area of Melghat) over a period of 5 years.
o To mobilize government to replicate this project in Maharashtra & India (Tribal and Rural area) over next 10 years to reduce death rate at least by 20% to 25%.

Programme Achievements
  • Age specific mortality rate and prevalence of untreated HT has been reduced in intervention area.
    Age specific Mortality Rate (16-60 years) is zero in treated patients. Not a single maternal death in intervention area.

    ASMR= Control/1 lakh pop.= 42 deaths 455.58/1 lakh pop.

Programme Title
HBCC (Home Based Child Care Program)
Description
• Activities of the Project:
o Home based maternal health care.
o Home based Neonatal Care. (28 days after birth)
o Home based post neonatal Child health care. (1 month to 5 year)
o Interaction with government health and ICDS system.
• No. of Beneficiaries:
o All under 5 children in 15 villages of melghat. (1350 children appr.)
o All pregnant women in 14 villages of melghat. (287 In 2012)
o All children with infections like diarrhea, Malaria, Pneumonia, Sepsis, Jaundice, Malnutrition etc.
o All delivered women for post-delivery care.

Objectives
o To reduce the Neonatal Mortality Rate to 25/1000 live births by 2015 in usual residents’ population of 12500 in 15 tribal villages of Melghat.
o To reduce the Infant Mortality Rate to 35/1000 live births by 2015 in usual residents population of 12500 in 15 tribal villages of Melghat.
o To reduce the under 5 children mortality rate to 50/1000 live births by 2015 in usual residents population of 12500 in 15 tribal villages of Melghat.
