School Health and Wellness Program

|
Launched in 2018, The School Health and Wellness Program (SHWP), under the aegis of the Ayushman Bharat Initiative, is a joint collaborative program run by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Human Resource & Development. It aims to provide health education, health promotion, disease prevention, and access to health services in an integrated manner at the school level. Currently, C3 is working in several high-burdened states to ensure the effective implementation of this program – like Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat. We have ongoing MOUs with the governments of these states, and we work closely with the State Councils of Research Education and Training (SCERT) in our implementation efforts.
To implement the SHWP, we conduct needs assessments through which we identify state specific issues and concerns and address them in our creative curriculum; orient state authorities on the implementation of the SHWP, and make sure they allocate annual budgets for it; train a cadre of state level ‘Teacher Trainers’ to facilitate trainings of ‘Health and Wellness Ambassadors’ in their respective districts; make sure that the SHWP has been incorporated in weekly lesson plans in classes from primary to secondary school; support and monitor the regular delivery of sessions; and engage with parents and community members to make sure a larger supportive ecosystem is built around implementation of the program.

Centre for Catalyzing Change (C3) is a non-governmental organization, registered in 2002. We mobilize women and girls to achieve gender equality, and our technical expertise extends to incubating, implementing and scaling up programs focused on youth development, gender, and reproductive health and rights. Our vision is a future where women and girls are fully empowered to realize their rights, access opportunities and achieve gender equality. At the core of our work is a belief that achieving gender equality is essential to democracy and global progress. We work in intersecting domains of Adolescent Health Education, Maternal Health Entitlements, and equipping Women in Grassroots Politics to change inequitable gender norms.
