Goals
Future Programme Plans:
In pursuance of our endeavour to diversify in multiple fields and geographical areas rather than just restrict our activities in the field of Visual Impairment that too in a single location, Turnstone Global plans to undertake multiple projects across a wide geographical area. Some of the programmes which have been year marked for 2015 - 2016 are mentioned below.
To
 expand infrastructure to setup new departments at the Hospital in Chowhatta, Birbhum
 expand infrastructure facilities at our centre in Belabahol, Purulia
 speed up infrastructural work for setting up Old Age Home at Siliguri.
 establish Physically Challenged Corner at State Central Library, Aizawl; thus stepping into the state of Mizoram.
 setup a Braille Audio-Digital Section at the library in Guwahati University.
 expand activities in western region of the country especially in the states of Maharastra and Gujarat.


Capabilities & Challenges
1. Eradication of preventable Blindness

2. Education for all and provide scholarships to economically backward students.

3. Vocational Training and rehabilitation for the disabled.

4. Production and Distribution of Braille and audio material.

     Implementing partner for Swatch Bharat with Airtel in Ludhiana, Punjab
     Implementing partner with Vitamin Angel-USA based foundation for distribution of Vitamin A and Albandozel in West Bengal, Assam and Punjab
     First ever registration with West Bengal Technical Education to impart computer skills and tour and travel management for visually impaired
     Awarded Best Braille Press award by Govt. Of West Bengal
     Finalist in Social media category of e-NGO challenge
     Implementing partner of Raja Ram Mohon Roy Library Foundation to establish Physically Challenged Corners in different public libraries of Tripura

Background

Organisation History
Turnstone Global, is a voluntary not for profit National Organization established in 1990, committed to improving lives of underprivileged people including the disabled, the children, the youth and the elderly, touching the life of more than a million in this short span and dedicated and determined to make India free from poverty and injustice. The organization is registered under Societies Registration Act 1961 (Registration No S/66381) and under Section 12A and 80G of Income tax Act 1961. The organization is also registered under FCRA and with the Planning Commission under NGO Partnership Programme.

Turnstone Global works to bring about change in the lives of children, young people and vulnerable individuals. We educate children, provide healthcare and train young people and women in skills for livelihoods.

Our team of 250 staff, more than 500 volunteers and networking partners work in 8 states 19 cities and 24 Gram Panchayats in India with its headquarter in Kolkata, through over 62 programs and community-based services.

Over the years, the Organisation has moved from being a service delivery Organisation to one which successfully impacts policy and practice. Senior team members are a part of several policy making bodies in State of West Bengal.

We believe that the empowerment of the persons and availability of opportunities for such empowerment is the best help that we can do.

We believe, the people whose lives are affected should decide how we are run. And that’s what makes us different. We help people use their own power and potential to fight poverty, injustice and discrimination. Because that’s how real change take place – for individuals, for families, for communities, for whole society. Turnstone Global known for best practices in a variety of fields e:g transparency, accountability, believes, values compassion etc. is our strength which ensures proper utilization of every penny donated to us .

Facilitating the holistic empowerment and development of the disadvantaged section of our society and help them to achieve their highest potential and prepare them to face life challenges with high confidence.


Vision
To make a world free from poverty and injustice where every human being irrespective of their age, sex, cast, creed , religion, birth place, disability enjoys the right to life with dignity and to empower the marginalized section of the society by enhancing their knowledge, skills, capacities, access to opportunities, services and their participation in life’s decision.
