A GLOBAL DAY OF GIVING
Officially celebrated in 50+ countries, with people from over 150 nations participating, #GivingTuesday is a global movement of giving. First conceived of in the US in 2012 to balance the post-Thanksgiving excesses of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the movement is fuelled by the power of social media and collaboration. The goal is to encouraged celebrate charitable giving, and to raise both funds and awareness for important causes. Last year, an astounding $380 million was raised in the US alone in just one day of giving!
#GivingTuesdayIndia is celebrated every year on the Tuesday of #DaanUtsav – our very own week-long festival of giving (2 – 8 Oct), and is powered by GuideStar India – India’s most reliable NGO information repository with over 9,000 NGOs.

In just 2 years, more than Rs10 crore was raised during #GivingTuesdayIndia. More than 64,000 votes were received for stories posted under the #MyGivingStoryIndia challenge.
#GivingTuesdayIndia 2019 falls on October 8, which also happens to be Dussehra. Whether you come together with your family, your community, your company or your organisation, find a way to give back and share your ideas to inspire others. You could start celebrations from Oct 2, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and continue thru the week of #DaanUtsav till Tuesday, Oct 8 which is also Dussehra. Institutions could choose their own campaign period spanning a few weeks between September & December but including Oct 8.
Whether you are an individual, or part of a group, you can participate in both online and offline campaigns, supporting causes you care about. You can choose to give to several credible NGOs and through campaigns by collaborators featured here, in effective, exciting and engaging ways to make a difference.
