Programme Title
Home for 50 Women with Disability in Bangalore, India
Description
Residential care and Empowerment of girls and women with disability: The situation of Physically Challenged Girls is quite severe due to neglect by the family, lack of support, lack of integration at all levels in the society including that of education, medical, vocational and employment support services. When they belong to poor families the condition is further worsened and totally neglected. Realising this special need Margadarshi has taken up home for the physically challenged girls – from this home they are supported for their education and vocational training services in addition to grooming them to develop leadership and life skills. Beneficiaries: 50 girls/women. Budget: INR 30.2 Lakhs

Objectives
• Preparing the differently-abled girls to enter the Society as educated, well equipped individuals capable of economic independence and raising families.
• Provide women who are not literate with shelter and provide them skill based work suited to them

Programme Achievements
  • Margadarshi was awarded Chandramma Sagar Prashasthi on 24.07.2010, for the yeoman services done for the people with disability and Yeshodaramma Dasappa Prashasthi on 26.11.2012, for the Best NGO in the field of disability.
Programme Goals
• Young girls with disability, being educated will get jobs and take care of themselves and their families. Thus become contributing members of Society.
• Women with disability will earn a living through the sale of their skill work (making handicrafts items, paper bags, etc.)

Programme Title
Educational support services to challenged students in Karnataka
Description
Educational support services to challenged students: Due to lack of awareness, poverty, and structural barrier many physically challenged children are left out of school. They are often considered not fit for education. On the contrary, it is only the education which can help them overcome the challenges imposed by their physical conditions. To encourage the education of those who are physically challenged in addition being socially and economically backward, Margadarshi is continuously engaged to support such children by putting them back into the mainstream education system through counselling, scholarship, and other required support services. Beneficiaries: 3000 persons. Budget: INR 33.08 Lakhs

Objectives
o Prepare children’s, parents and teachers for pre-primary and primary education.
o Strengthen system in ensuring access to education in all stage and all sectors and create barrier free environment and providing learning, teaching and reading materials for all Children with disabilities (CWDs).
o Ensuring appropriate and qualitative aids and appliances/ assistive devices to Children with disabilities (CWDs).

Programme Achievements
  • We have been providing Education support to the children with disability for the last 12 years, just to mention a few accomplishments:
    • Mr.Indiresh, with severe disability on a wheelchair, completed his MBA, KAS and now working as Under Secretary in The Office of the State Commissioner for People with Disability, Karnataka.
    • Mr.Rajashekar with ortho problem, completed his M.Ed and is working as Revenue Inspector, Government of Karnataka
    • Mr.Ramesh Raju has completed his BE in Computer Science and now working as Engineer in CMTI.
Programme Goals
All types of Children with disabilities (CWD’s) irrespective of age, gender, caste and religion to be educated. To ensure quality education in all stage and all sectors to access and enjoy their education rights

Programme Title
Medical Rehabilitation for People with disabilities in Karnataka
Description
Medical rehabilitation of persons with disability: Due to lack of awareness, lack of medical facilities, poverty and ignorance the disability is neglected at birth and in early stages. Without care and support at this early stage, they will suffer irreversible damage when they grow up. The interventions undertaken by Margadarshi are: identification of children with disability at an early stage, counselling, surgery, fitting of aids and appliances, training to use them, providing other support services. Through these services the effects of physical disability is minimized and over a period of time they get groomed to become confident and contributing members of the society. Beneficiaries: 1000. Budget: INR 52.35 Lakhs.

• Prevention of disability, early identification and ensure required early medical interventions support for person with disabilities.
• Develop Strategy in effective utilization of Rastriya Bala swasth kalyan karyakram District Disability Rehabilitation Centre,
• Usage of improved science, technology and skills and ensuring it reaches (transfer) to the grass root level.
