Judicial Reforms
Description
This vertical focuses on the working and efficacy of the Indian judicial system, including various specialised tribunals. This vertical provided legal research and assistance to the Law Commission of India in its preparation of the Report on the Commercial Division and Commercial Appellate Division of High Courts and Commercial Courts Bill. Currently, it has been engaged by the Law Ministry to conduct research and prepare a detailed report on streamlining tribunals.

Objectives
To do engaged and independent research and analysis, focussing on empirical studies, on ways to address the problems facing the judicial system in India.

Programme Achievements
  • - Bill on Commercial Courts, which the programme assisted in drafting, introduced in Parliament
    - Engaged by the Ministry of Law and Justice to propose framework for streamlining tribunals.
Programme Goals
- Effective law on commercial courts to be enacted to assist in reducing delays in commercial disputes
- National tribunals in the country to be streamlined for greater independence and effectiveness
- Assessment of a proposal on a National Court of Appeals to reduce workload of the Supreme Court

Programme Title
Corporate Law and Financial Regulation
Description
This vertical of Vidhi focuses on financial and corporate regulation. At present, it is providing legal research and assistance to a committee set up by the Ministry of Finance to study the corporate bankruptcy legal framework in India and frame a comprehensive bankruptcy code. It is also engaged by the Reserve Bank of India (‘RBI’) to prepare a series of reports on various topics relating to the power of the RBI and regulation of banks.

Objectives
To assist the relevant Ministries and independent government regulators governing finance and corporate affairs in India with legal research and drafting of laws and rules.

Programme Goals
- Creation of a comprehensive insolvency code for India
- Clarification of legal issues with respect to the powers of the RBI in the regulation of banks
- Clarification of laws relating to mis-selling of financial products
